After the Rot

2019 rotten/processed wood, canvas, projector, speakers video, 13:58 minutes

“After the Rot” is a video showing the assembly of a table, a vice and a chainsaw made from a disassembled Gazelle bicycle, and an attempt to cut wood with it. It features a narrative describing the process of rot in trees, and the imagined effect of a ‘mass-rot-event’ on coal mining and subsequently the steel industry. The video has a soundtrack made with flute and a single cymbal. The “mineshaft cinema” was constructed from rotting branches and pine beams in the manner mineshaft segments used to be made, before the introduction of steel and concrete to the mining industry.
